Almost all types of
cranes need to use hook block as basic picking devices, but the hook types, specifications and functions of different cranes may vary. The following are common types of cranes that need hooks and their application characteristics:
I. Types of cranes that need hooks
1. Mobile cranes
Automobile cranes: highly versatile, hooks are used for construction, logistics, rescue and other operations.
All-terrain cranes: large-tonnage lifting (such as wind power equipment), hooks need high load (100T+) and rotation functions.
Crawler cranes: used for heavy lifting (such as petrochemical projects), hooks need to be impact-resistant and anti-sway.
2. Tower cranes
Flat-top tower cranes: standard hooks are used for lifting building materials (such as steel bars and formwork).
Boom tower cranes: large-tonnage hooks (such as steel structure installation), may be equipped with double hook systems.
3. Bridge and gantry cranes
General bridge cranes: lifting parts within the factory, hooks need to be precisely positioned (such as electric fine-tuning functions).
Container gantry crane: Special hook (twist-lock type) for port container loading and unloading.
4. Truck crane (truck crane)
Small and medium-tonnage hooks (3T~20T) are used for flexible operations such as logistics and power maintenance.
5. Special cranes
Metallurgical cranes: High-temperature resistant hooks (for lifting ladles in foundry workshops).
Ship cranes: Corrosion-resistant hooks (marine environment), possibly with wave compensation function.
Aerospace cranes: Ultra-high precision hooks (satellite/rocket lifting, error ≤1mm).
2. Cranes that do not require hooks (alternative devices)
A few cranes use other picking devices instead of hooks due to special working conditions:
Electromagnetic cranes: Suction cups for lifting scrap steel and steel plates (without hooks).
Grab cranes: Loading and unloading bulk cargo (such as grain and coal).
Container cranes: Directly use special lifting devices (such as twist locks).
Vacuum suction cup cranes: Handle glass and plates (without hooks).
