What is an electric hoist?
It is an electrically powered device used to lift, lower or even move heavy or awkward objects. They are primarily used to reduce potential stress and injury to anyone who needs to lift a heavy object, or where the object is too heavy for a person to lift unaided.
Electric hoists are used a lot in many different types of work areas, they are commonly used on construction sites, warehouses, workshops, car repair shops, docks and large ships, but there are many other places where you would not think of using them, for example, lifting large tree stumps out, or lowering hanging lights for maintenance and cleaning.
Why use an electric hoist?
There are many reasons, the main one is probably safety, as the risk of injury is greatly reduced when using an electric hoist; this is due to the hoist taking all the weight, rather than the individual, and we all know that even the lightest of objects can easily strain your neck or back if not lifted correctly. This brings us to the next advantage, cost effectiveness, electric hoists are cost effective because firstly they can do things that might take 3 or 4 people or more to lift, therefore reducing the manpower required, secondly as they greatly reduce injuries, sick leave time will be reduced, therefore there is no reduction in manpower and no sick pay provided. If your electric hoist is looked after then it should last a long time, any problems can usually be fixed easily, and it should be tested and inspected every 6 or 12 months by a qualified engineer to prove its safety to use.
So it looks like electric hoists are a cost effective and safer way to lift all types of objects, big or small, light or heavy, in all areas.
