The Role of Pulleys in Cranes
Crane Pulleys are a core component of a crane's hoisting mechanism. Their primary functions are:
Reducing Force/Changing Force: A pulley system (a combination of a movable and fixed pulley) can exponentially reduce the traction required to lift a heavy object, enabling heavy objects to be lifted with minimal effort.
Changing Force Direction: They guide the wire rope's direction, converting the drum's rotational motion into vertical lifting and lowering of the hook.
Supporting the Wire Rope: They ensure smooth and orderly winding and release of the wire rope.
Material for Crane Pulleys
Crane pulleys are typically made from the following materials:
High-quality carbon structural steel (such as Q235B/Q345B): Used for rolled pulleys, it offers excellent overall mechanical properties and is the mainstream choice.
Alloy structural steel (such as 16Mn, 40Cr, etc.): Used for heavy loads and high-strength applications.
Cast steel (such as ZG270-500): Used for large cast pulleys.
Ductile iron (QT400-18, etc.): has good wear resistance and shock absorption, and is used for casting pulleys in specific working conditions.
